Navy as a starting point for November

Navy as a starting point for November

In November Hong Kong is about 19 to 24 degrees, windy when you leave in the morning, hot again at midday. This weather suits navy as a starting point: a thin navy knit on top, a light off-white jacket over it, take it off when hot, carrying it over the arm is not heavy.

For shoes I lean towards dark brown or black. Below navy trousers, a pair of dark brown loafers, fine for walking all day; for something lighter switch to white trainers, grey socks, a small strip of ankle showing. Keep the whole outfit to three colours or fewer, navy, off-white, dark brown, that is enough.

A black or navy bag works. A navy bag with an off-white jacket reads as one dark block from a distance, only close up do you see the layers. Keep the bag body not too big, on the shoulder it sits at the waist, it will not knock your arm when you walk.

The shop's Gucci women's wallet is navy, about 11x8cm, in a navy bag the colour follows through, it does not jump when you open the bag. The Chloé black card case is about 13x8cm, it fits in a jacket inner pocket, when you take the jacket off at midday the card case stays with you, no need to dig through the bag. Both are dark, they sit well with November's navy, black and grey.

Takeaway

  • Navy knit with a light off-white jacket, take it off when hot
  • Shoes in dark brown or black, socks in grey
  • Navy wallet in a navy bag, the colour follows through
